When it’s the middle of May in Texas the heat already begins to trickle in. Winter clothes are put away and replaced with T-shirts and shorts. This was the case as two Texans boarded a plane to Seattle in flip flops and short sleeves. With a final destination of Alaska these two had a giant checked bag,, full of coats, gloves, rain gear, and long sleeves to stay warm in a foreign environment, stored safe and sound under the plane. They had definitely overpacked, unsure what to expect, and not even sure they remembered what being cold felt like.
Stepping off the plane in Seattle was a brisk awakening. Rushing to the restroom they hurried to change into what few winter clothes they had shoved last minute into their small carry on. Unfortunately, this little break led them to be the last to pick up their checked bag from the carousel. Even more unfortunate was when they got there the bag was GONE. Yep, you read right, GONE. It was nowhere in sight, not a soul around, just an empty carousel spinning in circles. How do I know this story so intimately? Because those two wild Texans were my husband and I. We had just landed in a foreign city ready to board a ship to Alaska without a single coat in hand (and to top it off I was PREGNANT!). I was panicked. Our vacation we had planned for months was going to be ruined. I was going to freeze and I do NOT enjoy the cold (hence why Texas is such a happy home for me!). It was either freeze or rush around Seattle that night spending a bunch of unplanned money buying new gear. Not exactly an ideal option.
Guess what our giant carry on bag was missing? A LUGGAGE TAG. Not kidding. We didn’t have a single form of identification on that precious bag. Nada. The workers assisting us were equally floored at our lack of identification. Unfortunately, it looked like someone had mistakenly taken our bag, but without the bag having any form of identification, it could be weeks before the issue was resolved. My pregnant (more emotional than usual) self was devastated.
Ever since this experience, you bet I make sure EVERY SINGLE piece of luggage I ever travel with has a luggage tag. I’ve also realized tagging my kiddos backpacks and lunch pails helps immensely in the mix up of classroom chaos.
With all that being said, cute luggage tags are hard to find, especially for the kids! This is why I created my own and want to share them with all of YOU!
